The Child’s Play Remake cast reveals their excitement about the upcoming horror movie. Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, and Gabriel Bateman are pretty enthusiastic to be a part of the Child’s Play franchise and it appears they all had a pretty excellent time making the movie. Director Lars Klevberg is putting a new twist on the iconic origin of Chucky in an attempt to introduce the franchise to a new generation. So far, the promotional material for the remake has been pretty hilarious as it takes aim at its box office competition.

Aubrey Plaza stars as Andy’s mother Karen and she had previously talked about how much the remake pays homage to the original movie. She called it a horror movie a “throwback” and said, “It’s almost got a Spielbergian vibe to it.” When discussing the Child’s Play remake in the featurette, she notes she was happy to work with the cast. Plaza explains.

“I’m really excited about playing the role of Karen. The idea of playing a young, single mom was really appealing to me. Honestly, just to work with Gabriel and Brian, I think both of them are incredible actors.”

Brian Tyree Henry discussed his character, noting that, “Mike is very loyal and very trustworthy.” Henry went on to say, “He’s a police officer, and he meets this little kid Andy, who really doesn’t have any friends.” Andy doesn’t have a whole lot of friends in the Child’s Play remake, mainly due to the fact that he has a hearing aid, which makes him very insecure when having to deal with his peers. With that being said, Gabriel Bateman believes Andy is more mature than most kids his age.

This makes the arrival of Chucky the perfect thing for Andy. However, things start to change really quickly when Andy starts to figure out that there’s something off about his new best friend. In the original Child’s Play, Chucky was possessed by the murderous Charles Lee Ray, voiced by the iconic Brad Dourif. Things have changed for the remake, which will see technology creep into Chucky’s new origin, which has some fans more than a little disappointed.

Child’s Play creator Don Mancini has nothing to do with the remake and that aspect alone is a red flag for many horror fans. Mancini is not happy about the studio’s decision to reboot the franchise, but it could end up shining a light on the hard work he has put into the franchise over the past 30 years. We’ll have to wait and see how the remake is accepted when the movie opens in a few weeks to battle Toy Story 4 at the box office. While taking down the highly anticipated Disney/Pixar sequel is not going to happen, Child’s Play could end up doing pretty well when the dust settles.
