Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade Returns to Disneyland for Limited Time This Summer

Posted 2019/07/04 6 0

The Main Street Electrical Parade is coming back to Disneyland this summer. The classic lightshow started in the 1970s and then ended its long run in 2017. However, for 8 weeks, beginning on August 2nd, visitors will be able to experience the nighttime parade in all of its glory. The parade is made up of “half-million sparkling lights” and “electro-syntho-magnetic musical sounds,” according to Disney. Long-time Disney fans should be excited to learn about the upcoming return of the Main Street Electrical Parade and should start securing tickets as soon as possible.

Rumors about the Main Street Electrical Parade returning popped up online when trucks were spotted bringing in the old floats late at night. The original version of the parade ran until 1996 and was later brought back with a huge response from park visitors nearly 20 years later. Fans who attended the final night back in 96 were able to buy a commemorative display box for $10 with a light bulb from a Main Street Electrical Parade float. These boxes have since popped up online for a lot more than $10, but not as much as the stuff being stolen from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Disneyland has been seeing larger than normal crowds over the past few months with the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening, so the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade will more than likely bring even more people to the park. When first introduced in 1972 at the Anaheim theme park, it quickly became a crowd pleaser and went through a number of changes over the years, along with closures and replacements.

The return of the Main Street Electrical Parade is said to employ 80 dancers wearing 11,000 LED lights. As for tweaks to the parade and its floats, Disneyland has not announced anything like that at this time. However, it will probably be a nostalgia-filled trip for visitors who remember the nighttime parade from when they were children. The Main Street Electrical Parade’s theme song “Baroque Hoedown” will certainly be used, though the park may use one of the several remixes the track has undergone over the years.

The Main Street Electrical Parade was originally created by Robert Jani and project director Ron Miziker and different version of the parade have been going on at all of Disney’s theme parks over the years. Spin-offs have also popped up, but none of them have matched the spark of the original, which could be why Disneyland is deciding to bring it back for eight weeks. Hopefully, this will start a new tradition of the Main Street Electrical Parade coming out for a few weeks each summer. Disney will give out more information before the parade ramps back up in a few weeks. The Disney Parks website was the first to announce the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade.
