Disney’s Mulan Remake Trailer Drops This Sunday

Posted 2019/07/07 9 0

It was just a day or so ago that we passed along the news that Disney’s live-action remake of the animated classic Mulan is possibly ditching the Mushu character from the original film and replacing him with a phoenix. While that was some pretty weak news, we’ll all be able to see if it works in the movie’s favor sooner rather than later as today we have word that Fox has announced they will debut the trailer this Sunday.

I can only imagine Disney is finally unleashing the trailer for their Mulan remake because their other “live-action” animation remake of The Lion King will be hitting theaters in a few weeks on July 19, 2019. And considering that Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau’s retelling of the classic tale is looking to snatch up ALL the money at the box-office, it makes sense that the trailer for Mulan would want to snag some space in front of that movie.

For those of you out there that have not been keeping up to date with the remake as it progressed over the past few years, Liu Yifei will star as the main hero, Hua Mulan in this live-action version of the Disney classic. Ip Man and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Donnie Yen will join her as Commander Tung, along with Yoson An as Chen Honghui, Gong Li as Xian Lang, Jason Scott Lee as Bori Khan, Tzi Ma as Hua Zhou, and Ron Yuan as Sergeant Qiang. Jimmy Wong joins them as a soldier in Commander Tung’s unit named Ling, along with Doua Moua as Po, Chen Tang as Yao, Xana Tang as Mulan‘s sister, Hua Xiu; Chum Ehelepola as a con artist named Ramtish, Nelson Lee as The Chancellor, and Jun Yu as the voice of Mulan‘s cricket.

Chris Bender produces this remake along with Tendo Nagenda, Jason Reed, and Jake Weiner. It will feature music by Harry Gregson-Williams, cinematography by Mandy Walker, and editing by David Coulson. Walt Disney Studios will get down to business and release the film on March 27, 2020, here in the United States.

Meanwhile, the original Disney animated Mulan was directed by Barry Cook and Tony Bancroft from a screenplay written by Rita Hsiao, Philip LaZebnik, Chris Sanders, Eugenia Bostwick-Singer, and Raymond Singer based on a story by Robert D. San Souci based on Hua Mulan by Guo Maoqian. Pam Coats produced, and the film featured music by Jerry Goldsmith and editing by Michael Kelly.
