Epic Mulan Images Reveal the Beauty of Disney’s Upcoming Remake

Posted 2019/07/08 11 0

Disney released the first Mulan trailer this morning and have followed it up with some brand-new images. The trailer premiered during the FIFA Women’s World Cup game as the United States took on the Netherlands and Disney fans are more than likely pretty intrigued with what they saw in the brief trailer. The remake looks to have a much more serious tone when compared to the source material and seems to confirm previous reports about the musical elements being stripped away to make an intense female-led action movie. With that being said, there are still many ties to the animated classic shown in the trailer.

Sadly, Mushu, who was voiced by Eddie Murphy in the original movie, and Cri-Kee were not shown in the new Mulan trailer. It has been rumored that Mushu might be a phoenix this time around instead of a dragon and some fans are more than a little upset at the change. With that being said, the remake looks pretty impressive from a visual standpoint and unhappy fans may want to see more promotional material before passing any further judgement on the Mulan remake .

While some staples from the animated Mulan are absent in the trailer, there is a tease of the titular character’s beloved horse, Khan. He makes a brief appearance at the start of the trailer, before Mulan‘s parents start their conversation with her about finding “an auspicious match.” This bit is true to the source material as our main character promises to “bring honor to us all,” while a faint and familiar tune can be heard in the background. While it doesn’t look like there will be any singing in Mulan, there will reportedly be instrumental versions of the classic song playing throughout the remake.

Director Nico Caro seems to have kept her promise of making an action movie with the Mulan remake. The stills and trailer tease what looks to be some really intense battle scenes with a healthy dose of creative choreography. Star Liu Yifei is the obvious focus of the trailer, but one can’t help but notice the backgrounds and rich, mostly simple, coloring palette chosen to flesh everything out. Now that Disney has finally given us a sneak peek at the long-awaited remake, more promotional material will likely be on the way as the spring 2020 release date approaches.

In addition to Liu Yifei, Mulan also stars Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Ron Yuan, Tzi Ma, Rosalind Chao, Cheng Pei-Pei, Nelson Lee, and Chum Ehelepola. The remake hit theaters on March 27th, 2020 after being delayed by the studio. While we wait for Disney to give us more information on the highly anticipated remake, you can check out some official images and trailer below, thanks to the Walt Disney Studios YouTube channel.
