Halle Berry’s Catwoman Is More Popular Than Pfeiffer & Hathaway in New Poll

I don’t know about you, but my favorite portrayal of Catwoman is hands down Michelle Pfeiffer from director Tim Burton’s 1992 sequel Batman Returns costarring Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne / Batman and Danny DeVito as Oswald Cobblepot / The Penguin. But it looks like us Pfeiffer fans are in the (slight) minority as a recent poll shows that America’s favorite Catwoman actress is – what the hell? – Halle Berry?

Yep, it looks like the recent poll which let us know that people 18-29 preferred Robert Pattinson’s casting as new Bruce Wayne / Batman over X-Men: Days of Future Past and Mad Max: Fury Road actor Nicholas Hoult, is also cluing us in on the fact that a majority of America’s are wrong. I’m kidding. It’s all a matter of opinion. And it’s a view that filmmaker and critic Patrick H. Willems seems to think “comes down less to the actual films and more to people’s opinions of the actors.”

The results of the poll are actually a little confusing so let’s break it down a bit and see if we can make sense of it. The survey claims that “while Batman Returns‘ Michelle Pfeiffer is viewed most favorably of all the best big-screen Catwomen in terms of net favorability” polling at +62, Halle Berry’s portrayal of the character… scored higher in terms of those describing her performance as very favorable.” Okay. That doesn’t make much sense to me, but let’s keep moving ahead. The poll goes on to say that “Forty-two percent of those polled described Berry’s take in those terms, against 41 percent for Pfeiffer’s Batman Returns villain; in terms of net favorability, Berry scored +53.” Again, none of that makes any sense to me. But here’s the info for you to mull over all the same.

On a side note that should surprise only Batman Begins and The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan, both Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer outperformed Anne Hathaway’s The Dark Knight Rises Catwoman character, who “enjoyed a net favorability of +45 and 26 percent very favorable rating.”

<strong><em>Catwoman</em></strong> poll

Again, I can’t quite get my head around these results as Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman from Tim Burton’s Batman Returns is basically the best thing that has ever happened to black leather and Catwoman on the big screen. Meanwhile, Halle Berry’s 2004 Catwoman movie – directed by some dude named Pitof – has a current rating of 9% (read that again, 9%) over on Rotten Tomatoes and only snagged $40.2 million at the domestic box-office on a production budget of $100 million. Oh, and let’s not forget that the movie won four Golden Raspberry Awards back in 2005 for Worst Picture, Worst Actress, Worst Director, and Worst Screenplay. This story comes to us via The Hollywood Reporter.
