Hanks Gives Holland an Acting Lesson and It’s Hilarious

Tom Hanks just gave Tom Holland an acting lesson during a new interview. Hanks and Holland are out promoting Toy Story 4 and Spider-Man: Far From Home, respectively. Being a fellow employee of Disney, Hanks walked Holland through an acting technique, which helps him while he’s recording his lines for Woody. Apparently, voicing Woody for long periods of time isn’t the easiest thing to do because of how high strung he is. Hanks reveals he has to be clenched the entire time while in the vocal booth.

Tom Hanks, Tom Holland, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jake Gyllenhaal all participated in an interview with Graham Norton. As Hanks went further into his acting process for Toy Story 4, the rest of the group watched in awe, with a few probably not understanding how much work goes into making an animated movie. After Hanks runs through all of the major lines, he states they have to go back and do grunts and other random noises for action scenes. It’s at this point he brought Holland in for a quick acting lesson.

Tom Holland was brought into an acting exercise where he had to ask Tom Hanks for coffee in a variety of different ways. Hanks was impressed with the young actor’s different ways of asking for coffee and so was Jake Gyllenhaal. It was at this time it was brought up that Holland was doing the acting exercise with an American accent, which he says happens unconsciously now. The Spider-Man: Far from Home star then told a story where he was recently shooting a commercial and had to be reminded he was from England.

Toy Story 4 hits theaters this weekend and it has been receiving rave reviews. As of this writing, it’s looking like the fourth installment in the franchise might be able to pull down anywhere from $150 million to $200 million, which is huge. This is a far cry from the earlier complaints of Disney fans who didn’t believe the franchise needed another movie after the events of the third. However, even those who were initially skeptical have come around and even given Toy Story 4 a favorable review.

Spider-Man: Far From Home opens in theaters on July 2nd and it is on track to have a massive holiday week release with predictions upwards of $150 million. Like Toy Story 4, Far From Home has been getting massive early praise, which more than likely will end up with higher than predicted box office numbers. MCU fans are excited to see what the world looks like post-Endgame and to see if there’s any hints for the MCU’s Phase 4. While we wait to see how both movies end up doing at the box office, you can watch Tom Hanks give Tom Holland an acting lesson below, thanks to the BBC YouTube channel.
