Mark Hamill Reacts to His Star Wars Audition Video for Charity

Posted 2019/11/07 0

Mark Hamill has a good sense of humor about himself as he watches his original Star Wars audition tape. Hamill has teamed up with Omaze to raise money for the USC McMorrow Neighborhood Academic Initiative and the audition tape is being used to promote it. Donators will automatically be entered into a drawing to win a dinner date with Hamill and then a trip for two to The Rise of Skywalker world premiere in Los Angeles. Omaze will fly the winner and guest out to LA for the event.

At the time of his Star Wars audition, Mark Hamill was 24-years old. The actor makes fun of his haircut right off the bat and then proceeds to dive further into the tape, praising Harrison Ford. At the start, Hamill believed that Han Solo was going to be the lead of the movie because he was already an accomplished actor. However, that was not to be, as Hamill later learned when they offered him the part of “Luke Starkiller.”

Mark Hamill also goes into the first time he met Carrie Fisher, noting that she was wise beyond her 19 years. The actor goes into the production and even makes fun of George Lucas’ dialogue, while doing a pretty spot-on impression of the director. The dialogue of most Star Wars movies has been criticized a number of times over the years. Overall, Hamill says that he, Fisher, and Harrison Ford had a lot of fun making the movie and shared laughs on a daily basis, which is probably a completely different version of events for Lucas, who was stressing to make deadlines.

George Lucas ran into all sorts of problems when making A New Hope, which is why the movie was delayed. The director was making something that nobody had ever seen before, so he started Industrial Light and Magic, who were all learning as they went along. For Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford, they were all worried about the pronunciation of Chewbacca and Han Solo. Lucas could not be bothered with any of that and as Hamill says, he really didn’t care because he had so much on his plate.

In the end, it all worked out for George Lucas and the Star Wars franchise. Fans are eagerly awaiting The Rise of Skywalker later this year, which will put an end to the Skywalker Saga after over 40 years of storytelling. Mark Hamill has a part in the movie, but we have only heard his voice in the promotional material. It is believed that we will see Hamill as a Force Ghost, which will elicit mixed emotions from fans who are still disappointed in Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi. The Star Wars audition tape video comes to us from the Omaze YouTube channel. Head over to the site to donate and enter for a chance to win a date with Hamill and a trip to The Rise of Skywalker premiere.
