Will Spider-Man Ever Fight Dinosaurs in the MCU? Tom Holland Sure Hopes So

If Tom Holland has his way, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man 3 will see the webslinger facing off against dinosaurs. Does this stand a chance of actually happening? Almost certainly not. But it’s an idea Holland recently floated. The young actor is charismatic and full of ideas. Are they all good ideas? Not necessarily, but he sure does have the charisma to sell those ideas.

Tom Holland has been making the rounds with the rest of the cast to promote the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, which just recently hit theaters ahead of the Fourth of July weekend. During a recent interview, the actor was asked where he would like to see the next installment go, assuming it actually happens. Here’s what he had to say.

“There is a Spider-Man comic where he’s fighting Doc Ock in a private plane and he falls out of the plane into a jungle and then there’s dinosaurs in the jungle and stuff. That’s what James Cameron’s Spider-Man was going to be about. He wrote a Spider-Man script and it was about Spider-Man fighting dinosaurs I think. It’d be like Jurassic Park: Spider-Man Awakening or something like that.”

For those who may not understand what he’s referencing, James Cameron, the man behind Terminator and Avatar, was actually set to make his own Spider-Man movie in the 90s. It never actually came to be, and the full scale for his vision has never come to light, but apparently, if Tom Holland is to be believed, it involved dinosaurs. It was a little closer to the release of Jurassic Park, so that kind of, sort of makes sense. As not-so-serious as this all may be, there’s a lot to unpack.

On a basic, visual level, seeing Spidey face off against a T-rex seems pleasing. Narratively, it feels like jumping the shark. The other element of this whole thing, Doc Ock, is appealing though. We haven’t seen the villain in live-action since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 in 2004 and it would be nice to see Tom Holland’s version of the character battle the iconic baddie. It’s also worth mentioning that, in my research, I couldn’t find the specific comic he’s referencing. I did, however, discover Marvel Team-Up #20, which sees Spider-Man team up with Black Panther to take on a villain known as Segron the Dinosaur man. So there’s that. Your movie, Marvel.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is already cleaning up at the box office, which pretty much ensures that we’re going to get a sequel at some point. Not to spoil anything, but anyone who has seen it surely knows that we’re probably pretty far away from seeing Peter Parker dropped on a tropical island full of dinosaurs. Sorry, Tom Holland, but this is a dream that may have to wait. This news was previously reported by Digital Spy.
